John Carroll is a principal engineer and carbon capture subject matter expert for Southern Company’s Research, Environment and Sustainability organization and at the National Carbon Capture Center. He leads the center’s efforts to identify, evaluate and onboard technologies for testing at the facility.
Carroll began his career as a process engineer supporting research operations in gasification, pre-combustion carbon capture and post-combustion carbon capture. After transitioning in project engineering, he has been responsible for project management and execution for government-funded projects across Southern Company’s research and development program. His projects included front-end engineering design (FEED) studies for retrofitting carbon capture for natural gas power generation, renewable hydrogen production, battery electric and fuel cell electric vehicles, and supporting technology testing at the National Carbon Capture Center.
Carroll graduated from Mississippi State University with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Cngineering in May 2012 and completed a Master of Chemical Engineering at Auburn University in August 2020.
